Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

What is PRP?

Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma, also known as PRP, is a high concentration of your own platelets in a small volume of plasma.

It is a procedure where blood is collected from you, spun in a centrifuge to separate the growth factors, platelets, and stem cells from the rest of the blood.  It gets injected back into the targeted areas using very fine needles or via micro needling or micro tunneling procedure.

How long is the PRP procedure?

Blood draw takes just a couple of minutes followed immediately by a 10-minute centrifugation.  The time involved in the application of serum varies and it is based on the areas to be treated.

What is the expected results from PRP?

  • For best results, 3 treatments of 4-8 week intervals is recommended
  • 1st month- noticeable improvement in skin texture
  • Maximum collagen regeneration occurs around 3 months after initial treatment, resulting in plumper, lifted skin with fewer lines and wrinkles
  • Results typically maintained for 18-24 months
  • Touch up treatments after one year is recommended to maintain the results

Is the procedure painful?

There may be some temporary discomfort or possible redness and inflammation at the blood draw site and/or application site, but quickly resolves.  Local anesthesia may be used to decrease discomfort during the procedure.

What are the side effects of PRP?

Since PRP is produced from a patient’s own blood, there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction or rejection.
